The Pianist
From February 18 until May 4, 2008, a theatrical production of 'The Pianist' will be staged in the Netherlands. It is an impressive tale in which the beauty and the madness of humanity come together. In the play Dutch actor Edwin de Vries tells the story of the Jewish pianist Wladyslaw Szpilman (pictured on the left) and pianist Yoram Ish-Hurwitz (or in some cases Mikhaïl Rudy) performs works by Chopin and Szpilman. The play will be directed by Mette Bouhuijs.
The film 'The Pianist' by Roman Polanski received a Palm d'Or in 2002 and three Oscars in 2003. The theatrical version has been a tremendous success in France, where it has been performed over three hundred times with actor Robin Renucci and pianists Mikhaïl Rudy and Nicolas Stavy.
